Critical Need for a Network Engineer in Lanham

This Network Engineer position is responsible for successfully supporting, designing and implementing data networks for our Government customer. This position is located in the Lanham, MD, Network control center, which supports the Government customer?s data networks, as well as video, and television networks and Webcast. This position successfully implements new devices, performs maintenance, supports operation of LAN/MAN/WAN, and performs daily webcast related tasks.  Monitors Webcasts, LANs/MAN/WAN circuit needs and recommends improvements and modifications to existing infrastructure; diagnoses and resolves complex WAN/LAN issues and designs and implements LAN/WANs including routers, switches, firewalls and appliances. 
The position includes the following tasks independently and under the direction of Senior Engineers:

1. Install and configure telecommunication devices.

2. Track, report, and resolve Network problems.

3. Track, report, and resolve VTC problems.

4. Track, report, and resolve Webcast problems. 

5. Track, report, and resolve Firewall problems (Cisco ASA 5520?s). 

6. Monitor daily performance through automated tools. 

7. Perform upgrades to hardware and software as required.

8. Modify existing installations of network devices hardware, software, and other components as required. 

9. Develop and maintain documentation regarding network configurations, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software.

10. Shift work and/or shift rotation may be required, between the Hours of 06:00am to 8:30pm.

11. Off hours and on-call support duties may be required. 

II. Required SkillsExperience/knowledge in the following is required:

1. At least 3-4 years experience in routing protocols and configuration, especially BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, Multicast, and QoS.

2. At least 3-4 years experience in routed and ATM network environments.

3. Proven understanding of and experience with Network control center environments.

4. At least 3-4 years experience with Cisco switches and routers.

5. At least 3-4 years experience in configuring and managing network operating systems, network security, and firewalls. 

6. At least 3-4 years experience in configuring and managing network security devices, and Cisco ASA firewalls. 

7. Able to demonstrate experience in using wide and local area diagnostic tools.

8. Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.

9. Able to follow documented processes for operating webcast system.

10. Excellent teaming and communications skills.

11. U.S. Citizenship.

12. Ability to obtain and maintain SF85P Public Trust clearance.

III. Additional Desired Skills:

1. Knowledge or experience with Video Teleconferencing equipment.

2. Knowledge or experience with video viewing software.

3. Needs to be a quick learner and highly self motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

4. Cisco CCNA or higher certification.5. Cisco Security Certification.
